Toast 8 Titanium Support Notes
How to Apply Crossfades to your Audio CDs
- Launch Toast and click on Audio --> Audio CD
- Add your tracks to the project area by dragging them from the Finder or using the Media Browser.
- Click on the crossfade button to the right side of a track. The first and last tracks have an additional selection available for the lead in and lead out of those tracks respectively.

- Select a crossfade type from the list and enter the duration of the effect:
- Linear - The end of the first track fades out linearly, while the beginning of the next track fades in linearly. The power and volume may dip noticeably during this cross fade.
- Equal Power - Creates a smooth transition between the two tracks that gives nearly equal volume and power throughout the fade.
- Fast - The end of the first track fades out quickly, while the beginning of the next track fades in quickly.
- Fast-Slow - The end of first track fades out quickly, while the beginning of the second track fades in slowly.
- Slow-Fast - The end of the first track fades out slowly, while the beginning of the second track fades in quickly.
- Custom - Create a custom crossfade and apply to all tracks, see Custom Crossfades below for more details.
After applying crossfades to your each of your tracks you will notice the crossfade icon is now darker, indicating a crossfade has been applied.
- Once your crossfades have been applied, click on the red record button to burn your project. Remember that like all audio effects available in Toast, crossfades are non-destructive. Your original files will never be modified.
Note: If you apply one of the preset crossfades to a track, you can then enter the custom crossfade dialog to apply that crossfade to all tracks with one click.
Custom Crossfades
By clicking on the crossfade button for a track and selecting Custom, you'll be presented with the dialog shown below.
If you've already applied a preset crossfade before entering the Custom Crossfade dialog, the preset crossfade will be shown here. If you have not applied a preset crossfade, none will be shown when you enter this dialog.
Here's a description of the channels and tracks in the Crossfade window:
- The top two channels show your first track.
- The center two channels (Preview Crossfade) show how the tracks overlap. The waveform in this area represents the crossfade and updates in real-time.
- The bottom two channels show your second track.
To make changes in the custom crossfade dialog:
- Enter the Custom Crossfade dialog.
- Select a preset crossfade using the buttons at the bottom of the window
- The end points can be customized by dragging either end of the blue line indicating the crossfade to the left or right.
- The mid-point, where the tracks are split, can be customized. Look for the small colored squares to indicate where you can click and drag to adjust.
- To preview your crossfade, click on the Preview Crossfade button.
- To apply your changes to the selected track, click Apply.
- To apply your changes to all tracks, click Apply to All.
You can easily sync these with your iPod, and also enjoy them in Front Row using the Apple remote control.
